Australian Open: World number one Swiatek crashes out after shock loss to Noskova

World number one Iga Swiatek has been eliminated from the Australian Open after a stunning loss to 19-year-old Linda Noskova.

Swiatek claimed the first set of the third round clash before Noskova’s remarkable comeback to win 3-6 6-3 6-4.

The Pole was guilty of several forehand errors as she struggled to contain her opponent in the last two sets.

Czech teenager Noskova will now face 19th seed Elina Svitolina who beat Viktorija Golubic 6-2 6-3. It will be her first-ever round of 16 (fourth round) match at a major tournament.

Swiatek joins Elena Rybakina and Ons Jabeur as some of the top-rated players with early exits.

“I was a little shaky, obviously I didn’t hit two first serves but I pulled out an ace but it’s tough sometimes to bring it,” said Noskova.

“[My team] help me a lot, they were supporting me and I’m so glad I can have this for all of us.”
