Ayra Starr is one of the leading female artistes in modern Nigerian music history.
The 21-year-old singer-songwriter has stated that she wants to identify as one of the leaders of the Afobeats music genre, the leading genre in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
Speaking in a recent interview with Cosmopolitan UK, she said, “My hope for Afrobeats is for it to be the biggest genre in the world. Because it deserves to be.
“Other genres of music are great, but there’s nothing like Afrobeat. Even the sad music makes you feel good. So, I want Afrobeats to be the biggest genre in the world and I would love to be one of the leading artists.”
She disclosed that her dream music is Rihanna, Drake, Burna Boy, Beyoncé, Victoria Monét, Rema, Miley Cyrus, Kendrick Lamar, and Tyler The Creator.
Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, known professionally as Ayra Starr, is a Beninese-born Nigerian singer. She began a fashion career at the age of 16 with Quove Model Management before deciding to pursue a career in music.
