Babcock University mourns the loss of Prof. Yinka Olomojobi to suspected kidnappers

The Babcock University, located in Ogun State, is in mourning following the loss of Prof. Yinka Olomojobi, a professor in human rights and gender law, believed to have fallen victim to kidnappers.

In an official statement released on Monday, the university expressed sorrow over the brutal demise of Prof. Olomojobi, describing it as a deeply distressing event.

The statement also conveyed the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies and the Ogun State government in actively pursuing the perpetrators of this heinous crime.

According to the announcement signed by the Director of Marketing & Communication, Dr. Joshua Suleiman, the tragic incident occurred in Iperu town between 8 pm and 9 pm last Friday, April 19, 2024. The location of the incident was along the Iperu-Sagamu Road, approximately 8 kilometers from the Ilisan-Remo campus and 3 kilometers from the Iperu campus of Babcock University, Ogun State.

“This came as a rude shock to the entire university community which has been thrown into mourning,” the statement noted.

“Prof. Olomojobi, who began his career at Babcock University on April 1, 2011, was a vibrant personality who gave his all to imparting knowledge and empowering young people of the university where he taught.Ā 

“He had his Bachelor’s degree in Law: (LLB) from the Ogun State University, (1985-1990) and his Masters and doctoral degree programmes (2006-2010) from the University of Liverpool and Lancaster University, England respectively.

“The University commiserates with his family, friends, faculty, staff and students at this time of grief and prays for God’s comfort and courage to bear the loss.”

The university, however, assured all its stakeholders – students, parents, host community, faculty and staff that it will continue to collaborate with all government security and local vigilance agencies to ensure the maximum protection of lives and property within and around the university environment. 

“The partnership with our stakeholders over the years has yielded positive outcomes, and we will continue to explore greater collaborative endeavours to ensure a safer, learning, and living space for all.”
