Nollywood actress and media personality Toke Makinwa has urged nursing mothers to reconsider the habit of bathing their newborns every day, warning that it could be harmful to their babies’ delicate skin.
In a video shared on her social media page, Makinwa—who recently welcomed her first child at 40—said many parents mistakenly assume that babies need daily baths, even though “babies are naturally clean.” She emphasized that newborns spend nine months in the womb, which she described as a clean environment.

She explained that she does not bathe her own child every day, opting instead to gently wipe the baby. She encouraged fellow mothers to adopt the same approach, especially because frequent baths can expose newborns’ fragile skin to unnecessary irritation.
“I really think bathing babies actually causes problems. Babies are not dirty. They have been inside the womb for nine months. Inside the womb is not dirty.
“I don’t bathe my baby every day because it is not necessary. Babies are not on the floor; they are not dirty or sweaty. So, why are you excessively putting water on their skin? Their skin is fragile. You can wipe them instead of bathing them every day. This helped me, so I’m just putting it out there,” she expressed.
