Bedtime Stories: Nice guys can be manipulative too

bedtime stories

This is the pilot episode of the News Round The Clock (NRTC) original narrative, Bedtime stories.

The aim and objective of the Bedtime Stories narrative is first to entertain the readers; also, to put them in a reflective mood and discuss sensitive topics in our society.

The debut episode has been titled, Nice Guys Can Be Manipulative. It is important to note that the narrative is a recollection of the writer’s perspective and observation from events that unraveled before his eyes.

NICE GUYS CAN BE MANIPULATIVE

A couple of weeks ago, I was at a grocery store to get some edibles. After amassing what I needed to get, I joined the queue to make payment, in front of me was a guy, ahead of us was a pretty lady who was being attended to.

The lady who wore a green tang top was good to look at. She had multiple piercings on both of hers, a pierced nose and leg chain. Simply put, she was a slay queen without a shadow of doubt.

While she was trying to pay for her goods, her atm card declined. She was panicking a little bit as the situation was becoming embarrassing.

Then, the gentleman in front of me quickly stepped in; he asked the cashier how much her goods was worth and told them not to worry, he’ll handle it.

He counted some cash (I don’t know the amount) and gave the cashier, even told her to keep the change.

Stunned, the fine lady appreciated the good Samaritan and said, “God will bless and reward you”. As she packed her goods and was about to leave, there, the young man asked her for her phone number.

Oh, wow.

This babe wasn’t having it. She was infuriated by his approach.

“Is this why you choose to pay for me?,” she said. The lady then went on to rant in both English and her native language, it was embarrassing.

The dude had to apologize so the lady can keep quiet and not create unnecessary commotion.

Everyone in the scene began to criticize the supposed good Samaritan for not being “nice” enough and having “cruel intentions” towards her because of his petit benevolence.

As I stood there, I saw the young man go from being a hero to becoming a villain within 5 minutes. It was as if the ground should open up and swallow the man; but then, it is what it is. He was perceived as manipulative nice man, his aim and objective was always to get the contact of the slay queen.

I don’t blame the man, I blame the desire of the good-looking man who did nothing but have interest in a slay queen. I blame the adrenaline, the Pulsation, the urge, and desire to win the heart of the pretty lady. If the lady was ugly or was a nondescript, he wouldn’t have cared about her atm card.

But then, nothing warranted the insult.
