Karim Benzema’s lawyer has responded to accusations by French interior minister that the ex-Real Madrid striker has links to the Muslim Brotherhood Islamist group.
Gerald Darmanin made the accusations following Benzema’s social media post regarding the conflict between Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas.
“All our prayers are for the inhabitants of Gaza who are once again victims of these unjust bombings which spare no women or children,” Benzema wrote on X.

35-year-old Benzema, who plays for Saudi club Al-Ittihad, was born in France to parents of Algerian origin.
On October 7, Hamas launched shock raids into Israel, killing 1,400 people. Most of them were civilians. About 200 hostages were also seized.
Israel has since responded, launching series of retaliatory air strikes that has killed over 3,000 Palestinians in Gaza.
Darmanin, speaking on the CNews Channel, alleged that Benzema “has a notorious link with the Muslim Brotherhood”. This Brotherhood is a Sunni Muslim Islamist group with its origins in Egypt. However, the group is now banned by Cairo.
In his response, Benzema’s lawyer, Hugues Vigier said: “This is false! Karim Benzema has never had the slightest relationship with this organisation.”
The lawyer also stated he was planning to file a complaint against Darmanin for his comments.
