Amid gentle prodding for two years, Samsung now said it will force its customers to download the Google Messages app. Starting from the latest models of smartphones in Galaxy, namely the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Fold 6, which will be released in the United States, Samsung Messages will not be preinstalled.
It is one of the final pushes the search engine uses to make RCS the go-to standard. The Samsung Messages application supports RCS, although carriers and manufacturers think RCS functionality should be fully consistent across all users. This level of parity is extremely hard to maintain over two or more messaging apps ā if a developer seldom updates their app or introduces new features which are not available in other apps, they may well create a fracture in the RCS universe.
Pushing everyone into one messenger is the easiest strategy to follow. Google was the first one to advance towards RCS and the carriers started deploying Google Messages on all Android phones in 2021. Samsung bowed to reason and made Google Messages the preferred app on Galaxy phones a mere one year later, which means that Samsung Messages is essentially in a slow process of being phased out.
