Brazil and Orlando Pride star Marta Vieira da Silva, simply known as Marta has said she will retire from international football this year.
Marta, who has appeared in six Women’s World Cup tournaments, is Brazilās all-time record goal scorer, male or female. She has scored 115 goals for the South American country.
Already with five Olympic Games appearances, she could be making her sixth games if selected for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

āIf I go to the Olympics, Iāll enjoy every moment because, regardless of whether I go to the Olympics or not, this is my last year with the national team. There is no longer Marta in the national team as an athlete from 2025 onwards,ā Marta told CNN Brasil.
The 38-year-old says “there is moment when we have to understand that the time has come.”
She stated her optimism about the future of Brazil and the young athletes the national womenās football team possesses.
Marta is a six-time winner of the FIFA Player of the Year award ā more than other womenās player. As a matter of fact, no other female player has won it more than three times. She won the award five years in a row between 2006 and 2010.
She is a serial winner following victories in the Womenās Champions League, the Copa Libertadores Femenina. The legendary player was given the Golden Ball and Golden Boot awards for best player and top scorer at the 2007 Womenās World Cup.
In 2019, Marta became the first male or female player in history to score at five World Cups. Her 17 World Cup goals are an all-time record in menās and womenās football.
With three Copa AmƩrica Femenina titles to her name, she failed throughout her career to claim the coveted World Cup title.
This year’s Olympic Games will commence in Paris on July 26 and come to a close on August 11.
