The Supreme Court on Friday upheld Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s election as the Governor of Lagos State.
Justice Garba Lawal, delivering the lead judgment, dismissed the appeal by Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate.
Justice Lawal affirmed the eligibility of Sanwo-Olu’s deputy, Femi Hamzat, emphasising that Hamzat, a Nigerian, met the qualifications for the election.

Mr Rhodes-Vivour had raised concerns about Hamzat’s eligibility, alleging that he renounced Nigerian citizenship for the U.S.
However, the Supreme Court concluded that there was insufficient credible evidence to support the claim that the deputy governor renounced his Nigerian citizenship.
