Adam Gemili has announced his retirement from athletics at the age of 32. This brings down the curtain on a 14‑year career that established him as one of Britain’s finest sprinters.
The 2012 World U20 100m champion and 2014 European 200m champion confirmed he is hanging up his spikes. This closes a chapter that included three World Championship medals in the 4x100m relay: gold, silver, and bronze.
Gemili also won the Commonwealth Games 100m silver in 2014 and claimed three British 200m titles across his career.
His personal bests place him among the fastest Britons in history: 9.97 seconds in the 100 metres and 19.97 seconds in the 200 metres. Additionally, he remains a national record holder in the 4x100m relay with a time of 37.36 seconds, set at the 2019 World Championships.
