Former President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the party’s governor-elect in Edo State, Monday Okpebholo.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Okpebholo the winner after he secured 291,667 votes, defeating the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, who garnered 247,274 votes, and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP), who came a distant third with 22,763 votes.
Okpebholo also defeated fourteen other candidates who contested but polled significantly fewer votes than the top three.
In a statement released by Garba Shehu, Buhari expressed optimism that both the newly elected administration and the opposition would collaborate to strengthen democracy and sustain Edo State’s developmental progress.

“Congratulations to the APC and Senator Monday Okpebholo on this historic electoral victory. My warmest wishes for a renewed lease of life for Edo State and its people. I hope the winners and the opposition will work together to bolster democracy and maintain the state’s developmental trajectory,” Buhari said.
He further commended law enforcement agencies and election officials for their efforts in ensuring a peaceful election, expressing his hope that Nigeria, the continent’s most populous nation, will continue its democratic progress.
