CAF Super Cup: Zamalek’s epic comeback sinks Al Ahly in thrilling shootout

In a captivating CAF Super Cup final, Zamalek triumphed over their Egyptian arch-rivals, Al Ahly, after a dramatic penalty shootout at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Friday. The tension-filled encounter saw Zamalek emerge victorious 4-3 on penalties.

Al Ahly had seized an early lead just before the halftime whistle. A 44th-minute penalty, calmly converted by Danish-born Palestinian striker Abou Alli, seemed to put them on course for the title.

However, Zamalek refused to back down. They pushed relentlessly in the second half, determined to find a way back into the game.

Their breakthrough came in the 77th minute, when Naser Mansy delivered a clinical finish to bring them level. This equaliser completely shifted the momentum.

Despite their best efforts, neither side could grab a decisive goal in regulation time. With extra time scrapped, the stage was set for the drama of penalties.
