Cameroon beat South Africa, set up quarter-final showdown with AFCON 2025 hosts Morocco

Cameroon marched into the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarter-finals with authority after edging South Africa 2-1 in a rain-soaked battle.

They faced a spirited Bafana Bafana side coached by former Cameroon boss Hugo Broos – the 73-year-old led the Indomitable Lions to 2017 AFCON victory – yet they showed greater decisiveness when it mattered.

Junior Tchamadeu opened the scoring after chaos inside the penalty area allowed the ball to fall kindly for him, and VAR eventually confirmed it. Soon after the restart, Christian Kofane doubled the advantage with a glancing header that left Ronwen Williams helpless and the stadium erupting.
