The Government of Canada has announced that application fees for permanent residence and citizenship will rise for Nigerians and other foreign nationals seeking to live in the country.
According to an official notice on the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website, the new fees will take effect from April 30, 2026.
IRCC said the fee adjustment is aimed at “maintaining timely and reliable services and keeping pace with inflation.”
“Starting April 30, 2026, fees for permanent resident applications will increase as part of a routine update. Applications received on or after April 30 will be subject to the new fees,” the agency stated.

The increase will see permanent residence fees rise by as little as $25, while citizenship fees will go up by roughly 2.7 per cent.
Specifically, the Right of Permanent Residence Fee will move from $575 to $600, and the Provincial Nominee Programme fee will rise from $950 to $990. Business Class applications will see a jump of $85, from $1,810 to $1,895, while Family Class fees increase by $25, from $545 to $570.
Fees for Protected Persons will increase from $635 to $660, as will applications under Humanitarian and Compassionate Grounds or Public Policy Measures. Permit Holders’ fees will rise by $15, from $375 to $390, and the Right of Citizenship Fee will increase from $119.75 to $123, effective March 31, 2026.

IRCC explained that, under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations, permanent residence fees are reviewed every two years “to offset programme costs and respond to growing demand.”
