Estimated reading time: 4 minutes

ChatGPT is an AI chatbot created by OpenAI and came out on November 30, 2022. It uses a big language model that users control and shape a conversation to be the length, format, style, detail, and language they want.

Since its invention, more and more writers are beginning to rely, even to a point of complete reliance, on the chatbot to write their articles, blog posts, (school) assignments, and even thesis.

However, one way to know whether an article is written by ChatGPT is if the article has the same tone and style throughout, no personal stories, less creativity, and language that might seem a bit too perfect or robotic.

ChatGPT uses a consistent tone and style

AI models like ChatGPT tend to exhibit a consistent writing style across various genres or topics. This is unlike humans or creative writers who often adapt their style based on the subject matter or topics.

This means that the arrangement of the words is often the same. Some phrases or expressions may occasionally suggest that the article was written by an AI or ChatGPT.

These can include overly formal language, uncommon word choices, or syntactical patterns that are less common in human writing.

I am sure the result will surprise you. The content usually generated by ChatGPT often contains these words or phrases above.

While it is true that ChatGPT can generate text that reads fluently and naturally, similar to how a human would write. Yet, there are many instances where the phrasing or choice of words might seem slightly off or unusual.

Here are some commonly appearing words often generated by ChatGPT:

  • in the tapestry of

Whenever you see these common words and phrases being used consistently by a particular writer, there is every likelihood that the writer relies solely on ChatGPT.

Not all articles where these words occur are generated by ChatGPT. Nigerians writers. for instance, are often wont of using these words in their essays.

Articles written by ChatGPT lack creativity and originality

While ChatGPT can appear creative, it works within certain constraints. This is because its primary function is to generate text based on patterns in the data it was trained on. Therefore, most of the articles written by ChatGPT often lack the creativity, depth of insight, or originality that a human writer might provide.

Look at these examples:

  • Renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, offer viable alternatives to conventional fossil fuels. These technologies have demonstrated their potential to mitigate environmental impacts.
  • The phenomenon of global warming is intricately linked to human activities, notably the burning of fossil fuels. This process releases greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, trapping heat and contributing to the overall rise in temperature.

In addition to lacking originality, articles written by ChatGPT do not often provide anything new. Articles written by ChatGPT are often replete with sentimentality, ludicrous claims, and unsubstantiated data.

Writers must know that ChatGPT did not evolve to replace their creativity or creative use of words, which will forever remain uniquely theirs.

Lastly, writers should enrich their articles with research, expert opinions, and data to show authority and communicate in-depth work that they have done.
