Australia striker Sam Kerr has signed a new two-year contract with Chelsea, a deal that runs until 2026.
The announcement was made in the most glamorous way as Chelsea temporarily renamed their stadium ‘Samford Bridge‘ to honour Kerr. The renaming will last till Sunday.
Kerr’s deal is the first major move by Chelsea since Emma Hayes left the club and Sonia Bompastor was announced as new manager.
Bompastor left Lyon to replace Hayes as head coach in May. Hayes herself is the new head coach of the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT).

30-year-old Kerr joined Chelsea in 2019 and has won five Women Super League (WSL) titles with the London club. She has also won three FA Cups and two League Cups with the Blues.
Currently, Kerr is recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury she sustained in January. She suffered the dreadful injury during a warm-weather training camp in Morocco.
The Australia international has scored 99 goals in 128 games for Chelsea. Kerr has also claimed the WSL Golden Boot twice. She was named the PFA Player of the Year and WSL Player of the Season in 2022 and 2023 respectively.
‘Samford Bridge’ and ‘Kerrsmeadow’
In addition to the ‘Samford Bridge’ renaming, Chelsea’s Kingsmeadow has also been temporarily rebranded as ‘Kerrsmeadow.’
“We are delighted that Sam has extended her deal with the club. Sam is a leader and one of the world’s best strikers and goalscorers,” Chelsea general manager Paul Green said.
“She has been very important to our success, and we look forward to welcoming her back from injury next season.”
