Raheem Sterling has left Chelsea Football Club by mutual agreement. The club confirmed the termination of the 31-year-old winger’s contract on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
Sterling’s departure concludes a disappointing three-and-a-half year stint. He joined from Manchester City in 2022 for £47.5 million. He was the first major signing under the Todd Boehly-Clearlake ownership group.
His Chelsea career effectively ended in May 2024. Manager Enzo Maresca subsequently froze him out of first-team plans. Sterling spent the 2024-25 season on an underwhelming loan at Arsenal.

Chelsea will save a significant amount in wages. Sterling was the club’s highest earner on £325,000 per week. He had 18 months remaining on that contract.
Sterling is now a free agent and can sign for any club. He is reportedly open to offers from England or abroad. Stability for his young family remains a priority in his decision.
Several Premier League clubs have shown interest. Fulham, Crystal Palace, and West Ham are among potential suitors. Napoli’s sporting director, however, cited “significant financial expectations” as a barrier.
He leaves Chelsea with 81 appearances and 19 goals. His career honours include five Premier League titles and 82 England caps. Sterling now seeks a fresh start to revive a career stalled for 18 months.
