Chelsea squandered a golden chance to enter the Premier League top four after a two-goal advantage evaporated as Leeds United fought back for a draw at Stamford Bridge.
The hosts looked comfortable after goals from Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer. Both strikes came either side of half-time and appeared to settle the contest.
However, Chelsea unravelled with costly lapses that invited Leeds back. Moises Caicedo’s clumsy challenge on Jayden Bogle gifted Lukas Nmecha a penalty. Nmecha converted calmly, restoring hope for the visitors and from that moment, Leeds sensed vulnerability in Chelsea’s control.
The equaliser followed calamitous defending and collective hesitation. Josh Acheampong, Malo Gusto and Robert Sanchez failed to clear danger. Noah Okafor reacted quickest, poking into an empty net.
The goal stunned Stamford Bridge and infuriated the Chelsea bench. Chelsea had won four straight league games under Liam Rosenior before kickoff. Yet, Manchester United’s later draw ensured the Blues stayed fifth.
Leeds, meanwhile, climbed above Tottenham into 15th place.Their escape felt unlikely given first-half struggles.

Chelsea dominated early and looked composed for an hour. Joao Pedro opened scoring with a delicate finish after Cole Palmer’s pass.
Palmer later converted from the spot after Pedro was fouled and at that stage, Leeds had not registered a single shot on target. But sloppiness crept into Chelsea’s game management. The control they enjoyed vanished almost as quickly as it appeared.

“If we want to improve and get to where we want to be, we have to make sure we’re switched on for 90 minutes. It’s as simple as that,” Rosenior said afterwards.
“I’m devastated because some of the football we played was excellent,” he added. “We should come away with three points.”
“We gifted Leeds a point,” Rosenior admitted bluntly.
Chelsea still pushed for a winner late on, with Joao Pedro heading against the crossbar during sustained pressure. Palmer then missed a glaring chance at the death. Following Pedro Neto’s pass, the England international blazed over an open goal.
Leeds barely threatened before Nmecha’s penalty. Their away record suggested another defeat was coming. Yet, perseverance carried Daniel Farke’s side through. They refused to accept the contest was finished.
“We’ve shown this throughout the season,” Farke said after the match. “We’ve proved we are a proper Premier League side.”
“We want to be an established Premier League side,” he continued. “We are on a good path.”
Leeds remain six points above the relegation zone. With 12 matches left, survival looks increasingly realistic.
Chelsea, meanwhile, must rediscover themselves quickly. Their top-four ambitions now feel fragile again following this draw.
