Chelsea sign João Félix on loan from Atlético Madrid


Chelsea Football Club have announced the signing of Portuguese attacker João Félix from Atlético Madrid. The player joins the London club on loan till the end of the season.

The 23-year-old previously played for Portuguese giants Benfica before joining the Spanish outfit in 2019.

An Official statement on the club’s website read: “The Portuguese attacker Joao Felix will be part of the Chelsea squad for the remainder of the season, having moved to Stamford Bridge on loan from Atletico Madrid.

“A skilful and stylish attacker, Joao Felix is most effective when roaming fluidly across the forward line and involving himself in the build-up play.”

While speaking on his move to England, Félix said: “Chelsea is one of the great teams in the world and I hope to help the team reach their objectives, so I am very, very happy to be here and very excited to play at Stamford Bridge.”

The Viseu-born forward was a key part of the Atléti side which won the La Liga two seasons ago. As a teenager at Benfica, he was also a league champion, in his debut season.

Due to his brilliant efforts on the field of play, he won the 2019 Golden Boy award which is given to the best young player in Europe. He was also named Atlético’s Player of the Season last season by the club’s supporters.

During the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup, João Félix scored an important goal in Portugal’s first game of the tournament as the European country beat Ghana 3-2. He also gave two assists during the tournament.
