Middlesbrough striker Chuba Akpom has been named SkyBet Championship Player of the Season at the EFL Awards on Sunday evening.
The 27-year-old striker has been in stunning form this season and has been duly rewarded for his efforts.
Akpom has scored 29 times in 38 games, with 28 of the goals coming from 33 league starts.

If Akpom maintains his lead at the top of the goalscoring charts till the end of the season, he will become the first Middlesbrough player to win the Golden Boot since John Hickton during the 1970/71 Second Division season.
Akpom already secured the record for being the first Boro man to score 20 league goals since Bernie Slaven (1989/90).
Impressively, Akpom set a new Championship record for being the first player to score in nine consecutive home games. He netted his ninth straight home goal against Hull City at the Riverside in midweek.

āIt means a lot to get acknowledged for the work during the season and Iām really grateful for it,ā said an elated Chuba, who was also named in the Sky Bet Championship Team of the Year.
āThereās a lot of quality players in this league so for me to even be on the shortlist was an amazing accomplishment.”
Chuba Akpom also paid tribute to his Boro team-mates for what has been an amazing season so far.

āI always try to tell people itās not just me,ā he said. āItās about the team. I couldnāt do it. I feel like the manager has got the perfect players for the way we want to play.
āThe changing room is amazing, thereās a good relationship s between everyone and Iām grateful to everyone for their support and I wouldnāt have been nominated without them.ā
In another category, Burnley manager and former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany scooped the Manager of the Season award.
