From global triumph to island pride, the England international receives a hero’s welcome on his grandfather’s soil.
Fresh from winning the FIFA Club World Cup with Chelsea, Cole Palmer has embarked on a heartfelt homecoming to St Kitts, the Caribbean island where his grandfather, Sterry Palmer, was born.
Although the 23-year-old midfielder grew up in Wythenshawe, Manchester, his roots stretch beyond English soil.
Over the years, Palmer has proudly embraced his Caribbean heritage, often showcasing it subtly – most notably by adorning his football boots with the flag of St Kitts and Nevis, placed side by side with the St George’s Cross.
Palmer, accompanied by his family, landed on the island for the very first time, where he was welcomed with traditional Masquerade dancers, cultural fanfare, and official receptions by Deputy Prime Minister Geoffrey Hanley and Tourism Minister Marsha T Henderson.

“… beautiful and really chilled”
“Landing in St Kitts off the back of winning the Club World Cup felt really special,” Palmer shared. “It’s where my grandad’s love for football started. The island’s beautiful and really chilled.”
As Palmer spoke of his excitement to explore the island’s mountains, rainforests, and food, the nation basked in pride. Children across the island have taken to copying his now-iconic “cold” celebration, proving that his influence stretches far beyond the pitch.
Prime Minister Terrance Drew did not mince words. He described the England international’s visit as “a powerful reminder of the strength and pride of our diaspora.”
He went on to highlight Palmer’s influence on local youth, stating that his presence serves as inspiration for aspiring athletes in the federation. “Cole’s success shows that no matter where you come from, global greatness is possible,” he added.
Indeed, for the island’s 47,600 residents, Palmer’s arrival was more than just a celebrity touchdown—it was a reaffirmation of cultural identity and shared belonging. As the footballer continues to rise on the international stage, his ties to St Kitts only seem to deepen.
Tourism Minister Henderson echoed that sentiment, saying, “The Palmers already have a special connection to the island, and that will only grow as they immerse themselves in our natural beauty and vibrant culture.”
With every step through the streets of St Kitts and every smile shared with locals, Cole Palmer is not just visiting—he’s coming home. And as he carries the weight of two flags on his boots, he’s also carrying the hopes of two proud nations.
