The Lagos State Magistrate Court in Ikorodu has directed that two DNA tests be carried out to confirm the paternity of Liam Aloba, the only child of the late singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, known as Mohbad.
The ruling came on Tuesday following an application by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, who wants to establish whether Liam is his late son’s biological child.
Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga ruled that one DNA test should take place in Nigeria, while another should be conducted at an accredited hospital abroad.
Both the applicant and the respondent, or their representatives, must be present when samples are collected.
The court also instructed that the tests be done in government-approved medical facilities and allowed for tissue or hair samples to be taken from Mohbad’s remains, which are preserved at the Military Hospital in Yaba, Lagos.
The application had requested the Military Hospital’s Chief Medical Officer or other qualified personnel to collect tissue or hair from Mohbad for DNA testing.
It also sought that one test be conducted abroad at the applicant’s expense.
Joseph Aloba explained that uncertainty over the child’s paternity affects legal responsibilities and the child’s welfare, making the DNA tests necessary to settle the matter.

The court papers named Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, Mohbad’s widow, as the respondent. With no objections from her lawyer, the court granted the order and set the next hearing for November 11, 2025.
Mohbad, a rising Afrobeats star, died in September 2023 under controversial circumstances.
His son Liam was born in April 2023, just months before the singer’s death.
Since then, questions over Liam’s paternity have attracted public attention, with Mohbad’s father insisting on DNA tests despite initial resistance from the widow’s family.
