A gospel musician, Oluwatimileyin Ajayi, has been sentenced to death by a High Court in Lafia, Nasarawa State, after being found guilty of killing 24-year-old Salome Adaidu, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member.
The incident, which occurred in January, led to Ajayi’s arrest after he was found in possession of the victim’s severed head.
Adaidu was serving with Nicon Insurance in Abuja at the time of her death.
Justice Simon Aboki delivered the judgment on Thursday, ruling that Ajayi deliberately ended the life of the young woman.
The court said the case fell under Section 221 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty for intentional killing.
The judge ordered that the sentence be carried out by hanging.
During the trial, Ajayi claimed he acted because he believed the deceased was unfaithful. He also said he had no remorse over his actions.
However, the victim’s family insisted that there was no romantic relationship between them.
The case drew widespread attention due to the brutal nature of the killing and the public profile of the convicted musician.
