JUST IN: Crystal Palace sack manager Patrick Vieira [Read full statement]

Crystal Palace Football Club have announced the sack of first team manager Patrick Vieira. The Frenchman was in charge for 18 months.

The Premier League club also confirmed that “three members of Patrick’s coaching staff – Osian Roberts, Kristian Wilson and Saïd Aïgoun – have also left the club.”

Chairman Steve Parish said: “It is with enormous regret that this difficult decision has been made. Ultimately, results in recent months have placed us in a precarious league position and we felt a change is necessary to give us the best chance of retaining Premier League status.

“That said, Patrick’s impact since joining us in the summer of 2021 has been significant, and he is held in the highest regard by myself, and all of his colleagues.

He led the team to a Wembley FA Cup semi-final and respectable 12th placed finish last season playing some exciting football, which was a challenging and crucial campaign for the club given the changes we made to the squad prior to his arrival.

Palace on a poor run of form under Vieira

“Patrick has given his all to the club, and we all thank him and his team for their service.

“We also wish Patrick, Osian, Kristian and Saïd the very best for their futures.”

Palace now begin an immediate search for a new manager. Meanwhile, the club confirmed Dean Kiely will remain as goalkeeping coach.

Vieira’s sack by Crystal Palace does not really come as a surprise. Under his watch, Palace haven’t won a single game in 2023. The team has gone four consecutive games now without scoring a goal.

The last time the Eagles scored a goal was on the 18th of February against Brentford.

The latest of Palace’s poor form was a 1-0 league loss to Brighton on Wednesday. Solly March’s 15th minute strike was enough to secure victory for the home side.

Occupying 12th position on the Premier League table, Palace have accrued 27 points from 27 games.

The South London club have won only six games all season and have lost 12, drawing the remaining nine. Palace are three points above the relegation zone as well.

Crystal Palace will hope results will begin to turn in their favour after Vieira’s sack.
