Crystal Palace win the FA Cup: Eze’s strike sinks City to deliver first major trophy in 164 years

Crystal Palace have appealed the ruling by UEFA which stated their demotion from the Europa League to the Conference League.

Crystal Palace wrote their name into English football folklore with a stunning 1-0 victory over Manchester City to lift their first-ever major trophy in 164 years.

Under the iconic Wembley arch, the Eagles soared highest in their third FA Cup final appearance. It was a beautiful moment as they finally captured the silverware that had long eluded them.

Eberechi Eze proved the hero as he produced a sublime first-time finish in the first half to put Palace ahead. But while Eze provided the moment of brilliance, it was Palace’s relentless heart and grit that ensured their historic triumph.

City, ever-threatening, were handed a golden opportunity to equalise before the break when they won a penalty. However, Dean Henderson rose to the occasion, diving to deny Omar Marmoush from the spot and preserve Palace’s slender lead.

That save proved pivotal, as it injected belief and energy into Oliver Glasner’s side for the remainder of the contest.

Throughout the second half, Palace defended with sheer defiance. Every block, tackle, and clearance was cheered like a goal, as the Eagles repelled wave after wave of City pressure.

In truth, it was a defensive masterclass – one etched in commitment, courage, and an unwavering belief in their cause.

Having played in the first-ever FA Cup semi-final back in 1871, this win ends Palace’s long wait for major honours. The triumph is their first since winning the Full Members’ Cup in 1990/91, also at Wembley.

Palace’s win secures a place in the league phase of next season’s UEFA Europa League. It is also their debut in a major European competition.

To cap it all, the Eagles will return to Wembley again in August, where they’ll face Premier League champions Liverpool in the FA Community Shield.

But for now, the red and blue half of London can dream – because history has finally embraced Crystal Palace.
