The Czech Republic reached the World Cup for the first time in 20 years by beating Denmark on penalties in Prague.
The Czech Republic have secured a long-awaited return to the World Cup after a dramatic penalty shoot-out play-off victory against Denmark on Tuesday night.
Rasmus Hojlund missed one of several crucial spot-kicks when his effort struck the bar during a costly collapse.
Christian Eriksen converted Denmark’s only penalty. Meanwhile, Tomas Chory, Tomas Soucek and Michal Sadilek delivered for the hosts.
Pavel Sulc had earlier given the hosts a third-minute lead with a thumping strike, with the early goal setting the tone for a high-tempo encounter.

Denmark responded strongly after the break, dominating possession and pressing forward relentlessly. And then, their persistence eventually paid off.
Fulham defender Joachim Andersen equalised by heading home a Mikkel Damsgaard free-kick. However, defensive resilience kept the Czechs alive.

Extra time brought renewed energy from the hosts, as Krejci restored their lead before Denmark struck again late.
The match ultimately hinged on penalties, where Denmark faltered badly after missing multiple attempts.
The result means the Czech Republic are heading to the 2026 World Cup. Denmark, however, will miss the tournament for the first time since 2014.
