Remo Stars have slumped to 19th position in the Nigeria Premier Football League after extending their winless run to six matches, collecting just 27 points from 26 games. The defending champions now sit two points above the relegation zone.
Daniel Ogunmodede’s side recorded five defeats and one draw during this alarming sequence. The form reading of D L L L D L represents the club’s worst run since their 2018-19 relegation season.
At this stage last season, Remo Stars topped the NPFL table with 51 points. They eventually claimed their first-ever league title in April 2025, finishing with 71 points.
Relegation history haunts Sky Blue Stars
Remo Stars first gained NPFL promotion in 2016. They lasted just two seasons before dropping to the Nigeria National League in 2018-19.

That relegation season saw them win only four matches from 22 fixtures. They finished 17th in Group A with 20 points from 22 games.
The club bounced back in 2021 and steadily rebuilt. They finished third in 2021-22, second in 2022-23, and second again in 2023-24 before finally winning the title last season.
Current standings
Remo Stars currently have 27 points from 26 matches, with 12 games remaining. They have won eight matches, drawn two, and lost 12 this season.
Ikorodu City lead the table with 44 points after Matchday 26. Rivers United sit third with 41 points but hold five games in hand.
Only two points separate Remo Stars from bottom side Kun Khalifat on 19 points. The relegation zone currently comprises the bottom four positions.
Fixture list shows respite
Remo Stars face a congested run-in with 12 matches remaining. The club’s superior facilities and organisation, often praised as NPFL benchmarks, now count for nothing. Private ownership and a world-class stadium cannot score goals.
Captain Stanley Joseph and striker Victor Mbaoma must rally a dressing room unaccustomed to pressure. Most current players joined after the 2019 relegation.
The next six matches will determine whether Remo Stars become the first defending champion to suffer relegation since Bendel Insurance in 2019.
