The Catalonia High Court has acquitted Dani Alves following an earlier sexual assault conviction.
The ruling, based on inconsistencies in the accuser’s testimony, has cleared the Brazilian football star of all charges.

Alves was convicted in February 2024 for allegedly assaulting a woman at a Barcelona nightclub in December 2022. As a result, he was sentenced to four and a half years in prison. However, his legal team filed an appeal, challenging the credibility of the evidence.

During the appeal, the court emphasised the presumption of innocence, which played a key role in the verdict. The panel, consisting of three female judges and one male judge, found discrepancies in the accuser’s statements. Furthermore, surveillance footage suggested prior consent between Alves and the accuser before entering the restroom.
Due to these inconsistencies, the court ruled that the evidence was not strong enough to uphold the conviction. Additionally, the judges noted that without clear proof, the case could not meet the required legal standard. Consequently, Alves’ conviction was overturned.

With this decision, all precautionary measures against the former Barcelona player have been nullified. His legal troubles, which had placed his career on hold, are now officially behind him.
