A Spanish court has ordered former Barcelona defender Dani Alves to be held in custody without bail after he was arrested on allegations of sexual assault.
The judgment was given after the 39-year-old was questioned regarding āevents that allegedly took place at a nightclub.”
Meanwhile, Mexican club Pumas have terminated Alves’ contract with immediate effect, following the recent events.
A source close to the dossier said the judge had taken the decision ā which was requested by public prosecutors ā because the court considered the possibility of Alves trying to flee.
Alves, who is one of football’s most decorated players ever, was taken into custody on Friday after being summoned to a Barcelona police station and was then sent before the judge.
Catalan police stated they got a complaint on 2 January from a woman who had accused the Brazilian player of sexual assault.
