Flamengo secured a landmark fourth Copa Libertadores title after the Brazilian giants edged rivals Palmeiras in a tense final. Although the match lacked early clarity, Flamengo’s discipline eventually proved decisive.
The opening half featured plenty of aggression but little incision. Both sides struggled for rhythm, and clear chances were scarce throughout the first 45 minutes. Flamengo survived a major scare when Erick Pulgar escaped punishment for a reckless challenge on Bruno Fuchs.
However, the game shifted after the interval as Flamengo increased their pressure. Their midfield tightened spaces, and their forwards stretched Palmeiras’ defence. The tension mounted, yet Flamengo continued to look the more likely side to break through.
Their breakthrough arrived in the 67th minute through Danilo, who rose brilliantly to meet Giorgian de Arrascaeta’s corner. His powerful header arrowed into the bottom corner and sparked wild celebrations from Flamengo supporters. The goal embodied experience and composure, two qualities that shaped Flamengo’s performance.

Flamengo hold their nerve as Palmeiras falter in crucial late moments
Palmeiras fought back desperately and nearly levelled late in the contest. Victor Roque had a golden chance with two minutes left, yet he smashed his effort over from close range. That miss drained momentum from Palmeiras and strengthened Flamengo’s belief.
Flamengo could have sealed the win in stoppage time as Everton stepped up for a low free-kick. His strike beat the wall but was pushed onto the post by Carlos Miguel. Even so, Flamengo defended with conviction until the final whistle and refused to concede territory.
The triumph crowned Filipe Luís as the ninth person to win the Libertadores both as a player and as a coach. His leadership has given Flamengo renewed identity and tactical resilience.
Moreover, Flamengo’s success continued the recent duopoly, as either Flamengo or Palmeiras have won five of the past seven editions. This final also renewed a familiar rivalry, given both teams met in the 2021 showdown won by Palmeiras. Yet Flamengo were sharper and calmer this time, and their maturity delivered a deserved victory.
With four titles, they now stand alone among Brazilian champions in the competition.
