Nigerian comedian Deeone has reacted to the shooting incident that occurred on February 24 involving former presidential candidate Peter Obi in Benin City, Edo State.
The incident happened when gunmen reportedly followed Obi’s convoy from the secretariat of the African Democratic Congress to the home of former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, John Odigie-Oyegun.
According to reports, the attackers began shooting shortly after the convoy arrived at the residence.
Vehicles in the convoy were hit, and the gate of the estate was damaged by bullets. Obi was said to have already entered the compound before the shooting started and was not harmed.
The visit was part of ongoing political activities. Obi was reportedly meeting with former Labour Party governorship candidate Olumide Akpata and his supporters, who were joining the African Democratic Congress.

Reacting in a video shared online, Deeone raised doubts about the situation.
He questioned whether the attack could influence public opinion ahead of the 2027 election.
The reality TV star also asked if the incident might have been staged by people close to Obi and described it as possible political drama aimed at gaining attention.
He said in a video on his Instagram page: “Peter Obi, you cannot win this 2027 election with sympathy, it might have worked in 2023 but not this time. How are we sure it wasn’t one of your people that did it? How are we sure it’s not cheap publicity?”
