The Kwara State Police Command has arrested controversial singer Habeeb ‘Portable’ Okikiola over a petition alleging criminal defamation and other related offences.
The command’s spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, in a statement on Sunday, said Portable was apprehended in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
She said he was apprehended on Saturday following a complaint lodged by Fuji star, Saheed Osupa.
The matter that prompted Osupa’s petition against the 31-year-old singer began in March, when Osupa reported one of Portable’s songs, ‘Fuji Shakushaku’, for copyright infringement, resulting in its removal from Apple Music.
‘Fuji Shakushaku’ was released in 2023. Displeased by the takedown, Portable took to Instagram in March, where he criticised the 55-year-old Fuji veteran in a series of videos.
However, the singer later retracted his statements and issued a public apology to Osupa.

Ejire-Adeyemi stated that Portable was immediately transported to Ilorin upon his arrest for further investigation.
Ejire-Adeyemi added that the petition against the singer includes allegations of criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, character assassination, conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace, and the use of abusive and insulting language.
“In view of the weight of these allegations and the supporting evidence presented,” the statement continues, “the Command secured a valid arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin.
“Acting on this warrant, operatives from the Command proceeded to Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Saturday, 13th April 2025, where the suspect was apprehended at about 19:25 hrs. He was immediately brought to Ilorin for further investigations”, she said.
The police spokesperson also confirmed that Portable has made a statement in the presence of legal representatives from both parties and remains in custody.
She added that he will be charged in court soon, reaffirming the police dedication to due process and urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information.
