Dele Alli contemplates retirement at 29 after Como snub

Dele Alli, once hailed as one of England’s brightest midfield talents, is now reportedly weighing up early retirement from football at just 29.

The former Tottenham Hotspur star, whose career has spiraled in recent years, was informed by Como manager Cesc Fabregas that he is no longer part of the Italian club’s plans moving forward.

This bombshell revelation comes after a frustrating spell in Italy, where Alli managed just 10 minutes of Serie A action since joining Como. To compound matters, his debut – the only official match he’s played in two and a half years – ended disastrously as he received a red card against AC Milan in March. That single moment has now come to define a stint that never truly began.

Though his talent once dazzled in north London, with Alli playing a central role in Spurs’ Champions League final run in 2019, his fortunes have drastically declined since.

Persistent injuries, loss of form, and failed stints at Everton and Besiktas saw his stock drop steeply. Now, his short-lived Italian adventure appears to have sealed the latest blow in a string of disappointments.

Moreover, sources close to the situation indicate that the Englishman is mentally and physically drained.

After years of battling public scrutiny and personal struggle – including his candid admission last year about trauma, addiction, and a stint in rehab – Alli may be edging toward calling time on a career that once promised greatness.

It is believed the lack of competitive minutes and the latest rejection from Como could be the final straw.

Despite interest from lower-tier clubs in England and abroad, Alli is yet to signal any intent to push for a fresh start elsewhere.
