Few days after one of their daughters contracted the deadly COVID-19 virus, Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa and his wife Edith have also tested positive.
They were already in self-isolation following the result of their daughter’s test a few days earlier.
Recently, his Ondo State counterpart, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, tested positive for the virus as well. The number of Nigerian governors that have tested positive for the dreaded virus now stands at five.
A statement was released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Olisa Ifeajika, who stated that they are all in stable conditions and are being given the necessary treatment.
Okowa expresses appreciation over prayers for his family
The governor thanked residents and well-wishers of the state for their prayers for his family. He also called for continued supplication for other patients undergoing treatment for the virus.
While giving assurance that his administration will not relent in its efforts at combating the virus in the state, Okowa urged the public to support the government by complying with prescribed protocols by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
The governor also reiterated that COVID-19 is real when the rate of increase and death rates are put into consideration.
āI, therefore, again call on every Deltan to observe the protocols on the virus while in public, to curb further spread of the virus, especially in the communities,” he added.
