Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini has expressed belief that his side can challenge for the Scudetto this season, while also praising Napoli manager Antonio Conte.
He stated his pleasure with his squad after La Dea heavily defeated Serie A table toppers Napoli 3-0 in Naples on Sunday.
Ademola Lookman scored two first half goals before substitute Mateo Retegui sealed the win in injury time.
When Gasperini was asked if Atalanta are Serie A title contenders, he responded with optimism.

“We played against the leaders and had a great performance,” Gasperini told DAZN.
“We need to grow not so much as the core unit, but with the many new arrivals who came in this summer. I see Kossounou growing, Brescianini made his comeback today after a month out, Samardzic and Zaniolo are still finding their form.
Interestingly, Atalanta have won five in a row in Serie A after the victory at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. Their prolific goal scoring form also continued as they have netted 18 times. With 22 points, Atalanta sit second on the log and are now three points behind Napoli who occupy first spot.
Speaking about Napoli manager Antonio Conte, Gasperini stated: “Antonio is quite right to calm enthusiasm, but Napoli are an excellent team and the club deserves credit for revamping the squad.”
“Antonio will continue to do extraordinary things, one match doesn’t change that, and they will challenge to the end.”
