The state was created on February 3, 1976, by the military administration of General Murtala Muhammed, following its separation from the old Western Region.

Over the past 49 years, the state has been governed by 19 leaders, including 12 military administrators and seven civilian governors.

Aiyedatiwa, the current governor, assumed office on December 27, 2023.

The governor emphasised his administration’s commitment to maximizing Ondo’s potential for the benefit of its people, calling for continued public support as his government steers the state toward greater development.

“As we approach the state’s 50th anniversary next year, a committee will soon be set up to plan the golden jubilee celebrations,” Aiyedatiwa announced.

The governor congratulated the people of Ondo on the milestone and reaffirmed his dedication to fostering sustainable growth and inclusive governance in the Sunshine State.
