Detty December: Grammy Award winner, Tyla explains how she’s enjoying the yuletide season in Nigeria

Detty December is the term Nigerian youths use to describe their expectation of the festive season in the most populous black nation.

Since the term was coined in the late 2010s, it has become a mainstay in Nigerian lingua franca. Nigerian citizens from across the world return home in the concluding part of the year to celebrate Detty December. Interestingly, this year witnessed the emergence of various international acts, such as South African musician Tyla.

The singer-songwriter whose real name is Tyla Laura Seethal in a recent interview with The Beat FM 99.9 stated that she is having the time of her life in Nigeria this yuletide holiday.

Tyla said she saw the videos of the parties in Nigeria and had no choice but to come and experience them.

“I saw those videos (parties) and I said I’m coming. December in Nigeria is too much.”

Tyla, 22, shot to global recognition with her song ‘Water’.

In other news, on Wednesday, December 25, Nigerian celebrities shared photos of themselves celebrating the annual Christmas Day festival.
