Do these 5 things to fall asleep faster

The importance of a good nightā€™s rest cannot be overemphasised. Our physical and mental wellbeing depends on it. Yet, more than ever, we are keeping late hours.

Quite a handful of us suffer from insomnia. A common problem insomniacs share is difficulty shutting off their minds. It is essential for the body to relax, for sleep to come. When thoughts run haywire, it becomes impossible for the body to relax. To find out how to relax and fall asleep faster, keep reading.

1. Keep a journal

It is too difficult a burden to be concerned about the events of the next day. Insomniacs find that part of the reason they stay awake is worry. Jotting down your to-do list the night before will help take the pressure off. That is one less thing to worry about.

2. Take a warm bath

Taking a shower or bath has been shown to help in relaxing the body in preparation for sleep. Taking warm beverages like milk, also help. However, avoid caffeine at all costs.

3. Avoid sleeping pills

Sleeping pills, while effective in the short term, can be detrimental in the long run. It is best to allow your body to naturally carve out its routine no matter how long it takes. If symptoms persist, see a physician. There might be a health risk at play. You may also form a dependency on the pills, which is detrimental.

4. Donā€™t beat your self up

When you canā€™t sleep, avoid checking the time. Donā€™t worry about how it is another night with no sleep. The more you worry, the longer it will take to sleep.

5. Environment

Another important element is environment. If you do all the above and your environment is not conducive, nothing will change. A conducive environment may be a quiet, dark and temperate one.
