Don Jazzy: A Music Producer Par Excellence

Don Jazzy is a man of excellence and his work speaks for him. For his determination to maintain excellence in his chosen career, he is NRTC’s Personality of the Month.

Who is Don Jazzy?

Born Michael Collins Ajereh, Don Jazzy is the boss at Mavin Records. The company was established in May 2012 and this was after another company he co-owned with D’Banj was rested a few months earlier.

Don Jazzy hails from Isoko in Delta State. He is an alumnus of Federal Government College, Lagos and Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo state. His interest in music started at a very tender age and he learned to play the bass guitar.

Among the artists he has worked with include Ikechukwu, D’Banj, Reekado Banks, Korede Bello and Wande Coal. Others are Dr SID, D’Prince, Tiwa Savage, Di’Ja, Rema, Johnny Drille, Ladipoe, among others.

His work speaks for him

Don Jazzy produced the album, The Entertainer in 2008. Also, he was instrumental in the production of Wande Coal’s album, Mushin 2 MoHits.

On announcing his new record label on 7 May, 2012, Ajereh stated that he “sees Mavin Records being the power house of music in Africa in the shortest possible time.“

• Nigerian Music Awards (2006) – Producer of the Year.
• Nigerian Entertainment Awards (2007) – Music Producer of the Year.
• The Headies 2011 – Producer of the Year for ‘’Over The Moon’’, ‘’Mr Endowed’’ and ‘’Pop Something’’.
• The Headies 2014 – Producer of the Year for Dorobucci
• City People Entertainment Award (2015) – Special Recognition Award.
• The Beatz Award TM (2019) – New Discovery Producer.

An easy going philanthropist

Ajereh is not just into the business of making good music. He is a seasoned talent-spotter and has a track record of raising stars.

Moreover, he ensures that they get the needed attention for their work. This is beyond making money and is a desire to achieve excellence.

Many are drawn to his social media pages because of his regular giveaways. It is no news that he is a cheerful giver and has supported many small businesses.

Ajereh is one of the biggest names in Nigeria’s music industry. He has given music lovers good music unending.

Despite his wealth, he is reported to be a simple individual. His personality is a mix of fun, laughter, charity, and hard work.
