Patrick Dorgu has won Manchester United’s Goal of the Season award for his stunning half volley against Arsenal. The 21-year-old Danish winger scored the spectacular strike in a 3-2 victory at the Emirates in January.
The goal came in only Michael Carrick’s second game as interim manager. Carrick deployed Dorgu, a natural left back, further up the pitch as a left winger. The tactical gamble paid off immediately.
With the score at 1-1, Dorgu surged through the center of the pitch. He played a rapid double one-two with Bruno Fernandes that left three Arsenal defenders scrambling. From the edge of the box, he unleashed a thunderous left-footed half volley. The shot rattled the underside of the crossbar before crashing into the net. David Raya had no chance.
Dorgu suffered a serious injury later in the same match. The setback sidelined him for more than three months. Despite scoring only three goals all season, the quality and importance of the Arsenal strike resonated with United fans. They voted it above efforts from Matheus Cunha and Bruno Fernandes.
