The Benin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained 47 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud.
The operation, which took place on Friday resulted in the recovery of a pump-action rifle and live cartridges from one of the suspects.
The arrests were carried out following a tip-off received by the anti-graft agency regarding the individuals’ alleged involvement in online fraudulent activities.

In addition to the firearm, authorities confiscated six vehicles, a number of mobile phones, and laptop computers from the suspects.
The anti-graft agency stated that the suspects will be arraigned in court once the investigation into their alleged crimes is completed.
