The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the National Sports Commission (NSC) have agreed to strengthen collaboration in a renewed effort to promote sports development and unity across Nigeria’s security and law enforcement agencies.
The resolution was made on Wednesday, 23 April 2025, during a courtesy visit by the EFCC Sports Committee to the NSC Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko.
The visit, led by Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE II), Halilu Dauda, came ahead of the upcoming One Service, One Medal (OSOM) Games — a multi-agency sports tournament aimed at fostering peace, national cohesion, and talent discovery within the armed forces, law enforcement bodies, and paramilitary organisations.
Speaking during the visit, Dauda praised the leadership of the NSC and lauded its efforts under Dikko’s stewardship.

“I’ve followed your Commission’s activities closely and I must commend your work. The OSOM Games will help discover and groom athletes who can bring glory to Nigeria. Many Nigerians excelling in sports abroad prove that we have the talent—we just need to nurture it from the grassroots,” he said.
Also speaking, the EFCC Sports Committee’s Public Relations Officer, ACE II Aisha Mohammed, highlighted the importance of inter-agency collaboration in boosting participation and ensuring adequate resources are available to support local sports initiatives.
In response, NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko expressed his delight over the visit and reaffirmed his Commission’s commitment to developing sports from the grassroots, particularly through school-based programmes.
“Since assuming office, we’ve focused on athlete development with a structured training plan for young talents. We’re going deep into schools and communities. Waiting until competitions to prepare athletes is ineffective—preparation is what makes the difference,” Dikko said.
The 2025 edition of the OSOM Games is set to feature a broad range of sporting events including football, boxing, swimming, beach volleyball, weightlifting, taekwondo, chess, tennis, squash, scrabble, tug-of-war, shooting, badminton, and table tennis.
Both agencies expressed optimism that the strengthened partnership would not only advance the goals of the OSOM Games but also contribute significantly to Nigeria’s broader sports ecosystem.
