The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has mobilised over 28,000 officers across the country to maintain peace and order during the holiday season.

This was revealed in a statement on Wednesday by the Corps’ spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, following a directive from the Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Audi.

The deployment includes personnel from specialised units such as the Intelligence Directorate, Special Female Squad, Counter Terrorism Unit, Quick Response Tactical Team, Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad, Operations Department, Mining Marshals, and Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT).

Dr. Audi emphasised that the mobilisation forms part of the Corps’ broader mandate to secure critical national assets and infrastructure, as well as protect citizens and their property.

He cautioned that the holiday period may present opportunities for criminal elements to disrupt public peace and called for heightened vigilance to prevent any breach of security.

While addressing senior officials during a strategic meeting involving top management, state commandants, and heads of formations, Audi stressed the importance of gathering reliable intelligence through deeper community engagement.

The Commandant General underscored that security is a shared responsibility and that collaboration remains key. He stated, “We also call on members of the public to support this course of action so that together we can attain the goal of effective security coverage across board.”

He further encouraged coordination with other security agencies, local communities, and private security outfits, urging them to share intelligence promptly and reinforce information channels during emergencies.

According to him, such joint efforts are essential to combating insecurity across the country, including insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, vandalism, illegal bunkering, and farmer-herder conflicts.
