Eid-Ul-Adha: FG declares public holidays

In celebration of this year’s Eid-ul-Adha, the Federal Government (FG), has declared Monday and Tuesday as public holidays.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Ministry of Interior Permanent Secretary, Dr Aishetu Gogo Ndayako.

Ndayako said the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the FG.

He said the minister congratulated all Muslim Ummah both at home and in the Diaspora on this occasion.

“He called on the Muslim Ummah to continue to imbibe the spirit of peace, kindness, and sacrifice, as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be upon Him) and to also use the period to pray for unity, prosperity, and the stability of our country.

“The Minister assured that the Administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR is committed to safeguarding the lives and property of all Nigerians.

“While wishing the Muslim Ummah a happy Eid-ul-Adha celebration, the Minister advised all Nigerians to take responsibility in the resolve to hand over a prosperous Nigeria to our children.”

Earlier, NRTC reported that President Bola Tinubu will observe Eid-el-Kabir in Lagos and spend the Sallah holidays after departure from Abuja on Friday.  

This year, Eid-el-Kabir will be observed on Sunday, June 16, as declared by the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar.

In a statement released by Sambo Junaid, Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs to the Sultanate Council, it was confirmed that Friday is the first day of Dhul Hijjah.

Saudi Arabia also announced the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent, marking the start of the 12th Islamic month. The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia confirmed that Friday marks the beginning of this holy month.

Additionally, the Hajj pilgrimage for 1445 AH-2024 will begin on Friday, June 14, with the day of Arafah occurring on Saturday, June 15. 

Consequently, the major Muslim festival, Eid Al-Adha, will be celebrated on Sunday, June 16, 2024. The Day of Arafat, which precedes the festival, will be observed on June 15.
