Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming the state’s tourism destinations into world-class attractions capable of boosting its economy and drawing global attention.
The governor made this known on Monday during the 7th edition of the Hike Ekiti Mountain Safari, held at the scenic Sagbonke Mountain, also known as the Mountain of Cloud, in Efon Alaaye.
Describing tourism as a vital economic sector, Oyebanji said the state’s natural assets, if properly harnessed, could significantly improve its revenue base.
He emphasised his administration’s focus on renovating and modernising tourist sites to attract both local and international visitors.

Clearly impressed by the mountain’s breathtaking beauty, the governor referred to Sagbonke as a hidden treasure with immense potential.
He subsequently directed the Commissioner for Industry, Trade, Investment and Cooperatives, the Commissioner for Arts and Culture, and the Director-General of the Bureau of Tourism Development to prepare a comprehensive investment plan for the site.
“I thank God for all the endowments he has blessed us with.This place was discovered four years ago, and I keep asking myself what we have been doing with our endowments. God has given us assets that can generate revenue.
“This is a massive asset for Ekiti State. I am throwing the challenge back to you [Efon people], let us collaborate with the government and ensure this site is properly developed,” the governor said.
Oyebanji called on stakeholders—including investors, cultural custodians, and local communities—to support the government’s efforts to make Ekiti a global tourism hotspot.
Earlier, the Director-General of the Bureau of Tourism Development, Ambassador Wale Ojo-Lanre, praised the Governor for his passion and strategic approach to transforming the state’s tourism landscape.
He described Ekiti’s cultural heritage, natural wonders, and serene environment as unparalleled, expressing optimism that the state would soon emerge as a top destination for global travellers.
Also present at the event were the lawmaker representing Efon Alaaye, Olowookere Bosede; Commissioner for Trade, Tayo Adeola; Commissioner for Arts and Culture, Ojo Bakare; and former presidential adviser, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, among others.
