#EndSARS: Port Harcourt residents recount heinous encounter with police operatives on social media


The hashtag #EndSARS has emerged on the social media platform, Twitter once again following the recent experience of several residents of Port Harcourt, River state.

On Tuesday, June 13, News Round The Clock gathered that operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) have allegedly emerged in strategic neighourhoods in the city of Port Harcourt. Taking to the microblogging site, Twitter, netizens stated that the operatives are extorting, harassing and threatening youths in the vicinity, especially members of the male demography.

This report is coming almost three years after the #EndSARS protest took place across states in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. At the time, Nigerian youths took the streets to demand justice following reports of extrajudicial killings, indiscriminate arrest, theft, sexual and physical assault of the young populace in the nation, among several other heinous activities.

The demonstration led the Nigerian government to dissolve the unit on October 11, 2020, however, the #EndSARS protest in itself did not come to a conclusion until the nefarious shooting that took place at the Lekki Tollgate, Lagos state almost one and the week afterwards.

#ENDSARS: They Are Back On The Streets…

Taking to the microblogging site, Twitter, a netizen whose account name is @AjeboDanny disclosed how he was sternly warned by residents to preserve his jewelries just he avoids any form of harassment from the police operatives.

He went on to write on the social media platform, Twitter;

“I visited PH for a week and i was advised to put out my gold and jewelry anytime i wanted to step out of the house to avoid being harassed or shot by SARS

Why are these criminals still allowed to terrorize the people of Rivers? #EndSARS”

Since Danny’s outcry went viral on Twitter, several other youths who have been approached by the operatives in recent times have recounted their experience.
