The Euro 2024 group stage is concluded and all 16 teams moving into the next round have been confirmed.
After 13 days of fun and exciting football showpiece at this year’s edition of the Euro Championship, eight of the 24 teams that began the competition have been eliminated with the others advancing to the last 16.
During the group stage, we witnessed shocks, emergence of creative talents, some big teams failing to live up to expectation, and overall good football.
Although, many quarters believe the Euro 2024 has failed to live up to expectations so far, we have a lot to look forward to.
NRTC takes a succinct, comprehensive look at how the last 16 teams made it and how the others were knocked out.

Group A
Germany make it to the round of 16 as group winners. The hosts finished with 7 points after two victories and a draw.
Switzerland are through to the round of 16 as group runners-up. The side finished with 5 points after recording one win and two draws.
Hungary are eliminated in third place. The compact side concluded the group stages with 3 points gotten from one win. They lost their other two matches.
Scotland, in fourth place, are knocked out. The Tartan Army finished with a single point.
Group B
Spain are through to the round of 16 as group winners. Three wins secured their progress. They also did not concede a single goal during the group stage.
Italy progress to the round of 16 as group runners-up. The Azzurri fought hard to garner 4 points.
Croatia are knocked out in third place. The 2018 World Cup finalist did not win a single match and amassed a poor two points.
Albania are eliminated in fourth place. The side recorded one point.
Group C
England qualify to the round of 16 as group winners. Without any loss, Three Lions had 5 points following one win and two draws.
Denmark advance to the round of 16 as group runners-up (The side finished ahead of Slovenia on disciplinary points). They garnered three points.
Slovenia make it to the round of 16 as a best third-placed team. The team had three points, same as Denmark.
Serbia finish fourth and are eliminated. Two points was amassed by the Serbians and that is the lowest in the group.
Group D
Austria surprisingly finished the group as winners and are through to the round of 16. Accumulating 6 points was enough to achieve the feat.
France finished second and are through to the round of 16. Les Bleus managed one win and two draws to accrue 5 points.
Netherlands advance to the round of 16 as a best third-placed team. The side luckily escaped elimination after making it with 4 points.
Poland were always going to suffer and they are out after ending the group stage in fourth place. They managed to record one point after holding France to a 1-1 draw in their final group encounter.
Group E
In what happens to be the most dramatic group – all teams finished with four points each – Romania progress to the last 16 as group winners.
Belgium also advance to the next round after concluding the group as runners-up.
Slovakia make it to the round of 16 as a best third-placed team while Ukraine, in fourth place, have been knocked out.
Slovakia finished the group stage with a better goal difference (0) than the Ukrainians (-2).
Group F
Portugal expectedly concluded this group as winners and are through to the round of 16.
Turkey also find themselves in the knockout round after finishing the group stage with 6 points – same as Portugal.
Debutants Georgia are through to the round of 16 as a best third-placed team.
Czech Republic have been knocked out after garnering onlyĀ one point.
Interestingly,Ā no team at the Euro 2024 tournament finished with zero point.
