The Euro 2024 begins today in Germany with 24 teams competing for Europe’s biggest international footballing prize.
Individuals have been appointed to serve as team captains and will lead their teams during the tournament.
Defending champions Italy will have PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma as team captain.
Real Madrid and Liverpool have the most represented captains with three each. The trio of Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson and Dominik Szoboszlai will captain the Netherlands, Scotland, and Hungary respectively.

Meanwhile, David Alaba and veteran Luka Modric will lead Austria and Croatia respectively. Madrid’s new signing Kylian Mbappe will be saddled with the captaincy responsibility for France during Euro 2024.
Kane, Ronaldo captain teams
England will be captained by regular suspect Harry Kane. The former Tottenham Hotspur striker is currently contracted with German Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
There are also familiar captain names like Robert Lewandowski (Poland) and his Barcelona teammate Ilkay Gundogan (Germany).
Slovan Bratislava defender Guram Kashia will lead Georgia out at the Euro tournament. Georgia, who are appearing in their first ever Euro Championship, will also parade one of Europe’s finest attackers, Napoli forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Al Nassr striker Cristiano Ronaldo will lead Euro 2016 winners Portugal.
