“Every Igbo man under the sun today is a Biafran” – Kcee

Nigerian singer Kingsley Okonkwo, popularly known as Kcee, has asserted that he identifies as a “Biafran,” explaining that the term represents an ethnographical identity rather than a separatist label.

Kcee made the remark during a recent interview with Yanga 89.9 FM in Lagos, where he argued that all Igbo people naturally fall under the Biafran identity in the same way northern and southwestern groups identify with Arewa and Oduduwa.

“As far as I am concerned, every Igbo man under the sun today is a Biafran. I am a Biafran. I am an Igbo man and Biafra is where we are from. It is just like the Arewas and Oduduwas,” the singer expressed.

He went on to provide historical context, stating that the name “Biafra” was adopted during the civil war era.

“Biafra was created in 1967. Frank Opigo from Bayelsa suggested that name for the Igbos and we adopted it in 1967. Before 1967, who are we? Igbos. Being Igbo means you are still a Biafran,” he added.
