Residents and commuters on Lagos Island were urged to plan as the Lagos State Government announced temporary road closures and traffic diversions for the annual Lagos Fanti Carnival, scheduled for Monday.
In a public advisory issued by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, authorities outlined a detailed traffic management strategy around Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the colourful cultural parade.
To manage the influx of revellers and maintain order during the procession, several key routes leading into TBS were temporarily shut to vehicular traffic.
These included King George V Road (from the Mobil Filling Station junction), Onikan Roundabout (inbound to TBS), Flag House and Force Road (both inbound to TBS) and WaterBoy Roundabout (near the Old Defence House)In addition, all feeder roads connecting to Moloney Road were cordoned off.

Affected streets included Military Road (by the Old Defence Building), as well as Ajasa, Boyle and Hawley Streets.
To ease the pressure on roadside parking, the Ministry of Transportation provided alternative parking options at four key locations: Yoruba Lawn Tennis Club Car Park, Zone 2 Car Park (opposite Island Club on King George V Road), Museum Kitchen Car Park and the Bell Car Park (beside Island Maternity Hospital)Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority were deployed across strategic points to manage traffic flow, guide motorists and reduce congestion in affected areas.
The government appealed for patience and cooperation, advising residents to factor in delays and consider alternative routes where possible.

The Commissioner urged road users to plan their movements carefully, noting that the measures were necessary to ensure public safety and a hitch-free celebration.
The Fanti Carnival remains one of Lagos Island’s most cherished cultural events, reflecting the city’s deep-rooted Afro-Brazilian heritage.
While the atmosphere is expected to be lively and colourful, authorities stressed that safety and order remained the top priority throughout the festivities.
